Today was NUTS! We had a few scares and a ton of tears! It all started off normal enough, but in the middle of vacuuming I started to hear this crazy beeping sound. I realized it was a smoke detector. I just thought the batteries were out and went to look at it. It was the detector at the bottom of my stairs, and it wasn't the smoke detector. It was the carbon monoxide detector! I called Kev (as we stood on our back deck) to see what we should do. He came home with a 9 volt battery, changed it out, and went back to work. Minutes later it began to beep again. So I decided I better call my good ol' friend Melanie who is a fire fighter. She told me to call 911 so they could send out some guys to check it out. I did as I was told. As the kids and I were waiting outside for them to come, I realized the beeping stopped. I decided to call them back and tell them not to come. After all, I really didn't want to have a huge fire truck pull up in front of my house and draw a ton of attention to our home. Right when I got the operator the truck pulled up! Oh yea, the fire chief decided that he better come as well since he is the only one who has a carbon monoxide monitor to check out the levels in people. Spencer was thrilled. The guys decided they better check things out just to be safe. All the levels in our house were fine, and my CO levels were fine as well. These guys were great and tons of fun (for the 10 minutes I spent with them). They reset the detector and headed out. Better safe than sorry.
We had to get on the road as well. Olivia had her 15 month check up, and I was dropping Spencer off at my in laws so he didn't have to come with me. I thought I would be in and out. WRONG! I had to wait an hour before the doctor could see us, and Olivia had almost hit her wall. Good thing the attention from the doc cheered her up, and she is a perfectly healthy growing little girl. She was all ready to go, little did she know she was in for a painful finger prick and two shots!!! Poor girl! She screamed her face off of course, but as soon as I unwrapped that sucker she was silent! We took her back to Grandma and Grandpa's for lunch and a little run around in the Elmo sprinkler while I cut Grandpa's hair. She totally crashed on the way home. When we got home, and I was taking her in to lay her down the detector was beeping AGAIN!!! Thankfully she slept right through it for an amazing three hour nap! I decided that the dumb detector was just broken.
When she woke up I decided to brave the grocery store with both kids. I really, really do not like going to the store with more than one! They were actually pretty wonderful, but of course that couldn't last. Spencer began to have a melt down as soon as he realized he couldn't have the toy that was in a cereal box (you had to send away for it). That lasted FOREVER! Kev was a champ and made dinner for me while I dealt with all of that. Once he settled down, he and Olivia thought it would be fun to spin themselves dizzy while Kev and I watched TV. Olivia did exactly that and crashed to the floor and bonked her head on the built-in AGAIN! I really, really need a helmet for her! She had a pretty good cry, but once she saw Spencer she was all smiles again. She wouldn't hold still long enough for a good picture, but you will get the idea.
I had had enough! I got the kids in jammies, and I got Olivia down without a hitch. Spencer on the other hand, not so much. He had a melt down AGAIN! Kevin couldn't be much help because he had a terrible head ache (he NEVER gets head aches). Spencer ended up losing his bed time story for being so naughty which only escalated the situation. Thankfully the meltdown wore him out, and he crashed five minutes after he hit the pillow (no, I did NOT hit him with the pillow). After I went back in to kiss his sweet SLEEPING face, I ran out the door to get Kevin and I a tasty frozen treat! YUMMY! The day is over, the house is quiet, and I am ready to take on tomorrow...kind of.

That was a halarious description of "A day of being a mother". I can't believe you grabbed your camera when the firemen came. You're funny! Are you sure you didn't need to go back to the doctors for stitches!!!???
Holy post! Terry was sitting next to me while I was reading it and laughing. What a day! i am so glad that the CO levels were okay.Such cute pics too. Olivia is so big! I csnt wait to see all of you!
I had my camera so I could take it with me to my in laws!!! Came in handy sooner than I thought! I thought it was funny that the fireman asked if he could put Spencer on the truck!
I know that was the longes post ever!!! Thank heavens I have a babysitter coming for most the day tomorrow!!! I LOVE SUMMER! I am shopping with friend and then furniture shopping by myself! *deep breath and a smile*
You need your own reality show! That was quite entertaining!
Wow..what fun! I've had the gas peeps out to my house at least 4 times for that same darn reason. Maybe I should call the fire dept. from now on...my boys would like that better. AND my legs hurt when I look at that bump. So sad :(
Thank heavens I have this blog! Once I wrote it down it was entertaining! Living it today wasn't fun for a second! A day in the life of, I guess! Every mother has to do it!
I wonder if it is only our family who get numb limbs when we look at hurty stuff!
The firemen told me to call again if it happened again. Uh, I don't think so! I will just send Spencer with my friend to the fire house if he needs a fire truck fix. You might want to try calling next time it happens. Cheap entertainment and you get a whole lot of attention in your neighborhood! :p
One of those days huh? I have those days every now and then when nothing seems to be going right and I feel "off". My escape is definitely a bubble bath with the light out, candle lit and Michael Buble in the background. Try it...really relaxing.
Oh my heart goes out to you! That made me want to write about MY day yesterday. Not as exciting but did require a 911 call!! Mother's jobs are the HARDEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stacey - now I want to hear about your story.
That bump on Oli's head maked my legs fall off. Must be because I'm married to one of you girls.
k just so you know....I had to add a few of you to my own blog page so I didn't have to keep coming to KJ's page to link to yours. I hope you don't care. I just enjoy reading your stuff (Tiff, Stacey, Stacey, Brock).
Ha! You don't have to TELL us Eliza. Your sweet though. I wrote my story on my blog. But I am not advertising it. IT isn't as exciting as Kjerstens.
Tracy has been gone since Saturday, (Vegas doing job stuff). I am ready to pull my hair out. Plus I was watching another 8 month old all day yesterday. I must be crazy. I am now thankful we were able to just sit and watch TV all day.
Thanks for sharing your story! I thought I was the only one that had those kind of days! I feel like they are more often than not!
You deserve a date night after your shopping trip!
Go ahead Liza the more the better...right? I agree with Kjersten"thank goodness for this blog stuff" It sure is nice to have.
Hey Kissy I didn't know olivis learned to walk on MY birthday! What a girl!
It must be in the air!!! I guess the crazy days just make us realize how great the good ones are!
Tara, I wish I liked bubble baths! I have a hard time relaxing in those. Kev used to have baths ready for me when I would get home from work when I was prego with Spencer. What a nice guy huh. I always felt bad not staying in them very long, but it was probably because I would see 100 different peoples hair floating on the bubbles! Yuck! Maybe I should give them another shot since I am not working anymore!
I need a massage! I did something to my neck and shoulder. Maybe I can convince Kev to give or buy me one!
Spellcheck: Olivia
I know that was random but I was reading things you should right down.
Yup! She walked a day after we left on our cruise! Isn't that how it always goes!
Yeah all my kids walked before all the cruises I took too. *rolls eyes* IF ONLY!!
Wow, that makes me tired. I don't know how you mom's do it. I come home from work and i am beat. Too wussy eh? I tried to get on Byrce's blog, but do you have to be invited??
Oh yea! Sorry Jess! I forgot. Do you have his email? I can get it for you.
Olivia's head is so sad! Too bad that I didn't know that your day was that bad when I was on the phone with you! To let all of you know, Spence sure did have a meltdown on the way home from the store. He sure has a GREAT set of lungs!
I actually didn't feel like it was terrible. It was just crazy! I wasnt't bothered by any of Olivia's tears. By the time Spencer had his meltdown, bedtime was so close, so there was an end in sight! My fresh lime slushie ended the day on a great note!
I seriously think I need to look into some helmets for Oli. I may just make her wear a fat 70's sweat band across her forehead at all times. That should soften most of her falls!
Do it! That would be awesome!
Wow! That's some craziness over at the Bailey's house! Yes numb limbs....hit me hard! Lydia and I have no kids so no worries. But when the day comes, OH MAN!!! I don't want it to come now that I think of it. JK I'm excited to have kids crying and having meltdowns and fussing and bonking their heads and not holding still enough to take pictures of their bonked head and...oh and the list goes on.
I don't, can you e-mail it to me?jessluvscanada@yahoo.com
Hey, How are you making your header so cute- i need some tips. I can't get my image to center or my title to center. How is your mom?
IT'S TARA!!! I took her up on her offer to you! She is the baste! My mom is good. They live up here now. They are in Cedar Hills, which is on the bench above Pleasant Grove.
Hey, I wanna know how to do it too!
What they are in cedar hills? My cousin lives in cedars hill and when i am down i always go visit. How long have they been there? That would be really funny if they were in the same ward. She lives off Bay hill dr.
I love your new page!!! It's so freakin' cute!! I swear, I am the only one in the family that hasn't changed mine yet!
Katie, I want to know how to do it too, and your page is SOOO cute! I don't know how to do what you did either!
Jess, my parents live on Silver Lake Dr. Sounds like they are close!
